Maestro Mehta's English/Historia classes

Course Description

Welcome to Maestro Mehta’s 7th grade class! I am very excited to share my passions for English and History/Social Studies with you. These classes will focus on your voice. How can you represent your identity through your voice? Through this process, we will grow to be humbled and proud of who we are.

All course content will be made relevant to our lives. If you are at any point wondering why we are learning what we are learning, then I am not fulfilling my role as your teacher. As a result, we will frequently ask ourselves, “Why is this important?” and “How does this relate to me?”

Curiosity is the highest level of intelligence, and I encourage students to be critical advocates for their right to a quality education. Education=opportunity, and I want as many doors open for you by the time you graduate high school in 2021.

End of Week 6!

What a wonderful end to our week!
I want to thank all students and families for all the positive energy and hard work :-)

There is no school on Monday, Sept. 28. Our APTT meeting is on Tuesday, Sept. 29 at 5:30pm in Maestro Carrillo's classroom. I expect to see you all there!

No homework in history.
In ELA, students are to finish their table group presentations by tonight (midnight). Their independent work is to read and ANNOTATE their booklets Protests and Uprisings and COMMENT on the question that I have posted in our Google Classroom.
Students may also work on their five paragraph essays about Malala and Shabana.
Achieve 3000 has already been assigned (activities due on Friday, Oct. 2) however, please *ignore* the instructions about the graphic organizer for now.

Thank you so much,
Maestro

Homework due tomorrow (on Sept. 15)

Hi all,

Remember to go into your ELA Google Classroom and complete the question (List some pros and cons of the Bolivian government’s actions. Do you agree with them?) for the Bolivia article.

By Wednesday, for ELA you need to bring in your annotated copy of "For first time ever, mandatory water restrictions ordered in California" and the completed graphic organizer which I passed out today in class.

Also, please remember to bring in the signed authorization letter I sent home today so I can complete my SDSU project and we can have a small celebration when I pass!

Thanks,
Sahil

End of Week 4

We have finished four weeks of school! Congratulations on making it this far and always being so positive :-)

ELA: Achieve 3000 articles are already assigned. Make sure you also review our writing assignment rubric and prompt. It is in Google Classroom. You do not need to begin the assignment but please read it.

History: We will start presentations next week, so work on them over the weekend. I will give 7B 45 minutes on Monday to work and practice in teams. 7A needs to finish over the weekend or during ZAP time on Monday.

Thanks!
Maestro

Finishing Week 3, going into Week 4

We have a long weekend since there is no school on Monday. As a result, I am assigning a little bit more homework than usual:

I sent home a Malala the Brave booklet with you. You must annotate the booklet, with the reading/annotating purpose of identifying the case of oppression that Malala fought against as an activist.

By Monday at midnight, you must post a response to the reflection question in our Google Classroom ELA page.

Further, the two Achieve articles have been assigned for next week and are in your mailbox. I also gave each of you a graphic organizer that you are to fill out when completing each article. ONE activity and side of the graphic organizer is due on Wednesday in ELA. I will check!
The SECOND activity and side of the graphic organizer is due by Friday. You pick which article you want to do first.

7A students who did not finish their graphic organizers in History are to do them at home and bring them to school on Tuesday. 7B has not homework in history.

Thank you & have a great weekend!!

Achieve 3000 due Friday

Hi all,

Remember that your Achieve 3000 articles are due Friday. 75% or more is required so if you do not pass that in the first try, you must pick two additional articles.
  • The Many Faces of New York Police
  • Ancient Greece and Rome: RIP, Western Roman Empire
Saludos,
Maestro

End of week 2

What a great end to Week 2!!

Students have until midnight tonight to finish their Achieve activity "Before you Build" and their Google Document questions and annotations for the "Happy" article.

I have already assigned next week's Achieve articles since many students want to get ahead. Please make sure you get 75%+ and if not, then you must pick another article.

Felicidades a Naydine y Juan David por sacar 100% en nuestra prueba en ingles hoy :-)

Have a wonderful weekend!!

Homework due week 2

Historia: Los alumnos tienen que entregar sus comics (7A el viernes y 7B el jueves) sobre la leyenda romana.

English:
1. Students need to complete their annotations and answers to "Culture clash in Iran over 'Happy' dancing video" which they can find in our Google Classroom page. The Google Doc will automatically be submitted by Friday at midnight.
2. By Friday at 3:35pm, students should have completed "Before you Build" activity on Achieve3000 with 75% or more (or pick another article if they do not pass this one) on their FIRST try.

Syllabus needs to be signed / El silabo tiene que ser firmado

Today was a great first day of school! Your child needs to bring the syllabus in signed tomorrow. They were all given copies today. The signature will be a part of their homework grade.
