Special Education Services

EJE Dual Language Academy is committed to providing a Free Appropriate Public Education (FAPE) to eligible students with disabilities in accordance with the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) and applicable California education laws. Special education and related services are provided to eligible students based on their individual educational needs as determined by the Individualized Education Program (IEP) team. Services and supports are individualized and may be provided in the general education setting or other appropriate educational settings in accordance with each student's IEP and the requirement to educate students in the least restrictive environment (LRE). EJE Dual Language Academy does not discriminate against students on the basis of disability and is committed to providing equal access to educational opportunities.

Child Find and Special Education Referrals

EJE Dual Language Academy is responsible for identifying, locating, and evaluating students who may have disabilities and require special education and related services, consistent with applicable Child Find requirements.

Parents, guardians, teachers, and other individuals who suspect a student may have a disability are encouraged to contact the school or Special Education Department. Parents and guardians may request an evaluation for special education eligibility in writing. General education interventions and supports may be implemented when appropriate but are not required before a special education evaluation can be considered.

Students determined eligible for special education services receive an Individualized Education Program (IEP) developed by a team that includes parents or guardians, educators, and other appropriate school personnel. The IEP identifies the student's educational needs, annual goals, accommodations, services, and supports.

IEPs are reviewed at least annually and reevaluations are conducted at least every three years, unless otherwise agreed upon or required sooner. Parents and guardians are important members of the IEP team and participate in decisions regarding their child's special education program.

Extended School Year (ESY)

Extended School Year (ESY) services are provided to eligible students when determined necessary by the IEP team for the student to receive a Free Appropriate Public Education (FAPE). ESY eligibility, services, and supports are determined individually through the IEP process.

Parent Rights and Procedural Safeguards

Parents and guardians of students with disabilities have specific rights under federal and state special education laws.

These rights include participation in the IEP process, access to educational records, the right to request assessments, and procedures for resolving disagreements regarding special education services. A copy of the Notice of Procedural Safeguards is available through the Special Education Department.
